Manoj Joshi was born in 1955 to Onkar Joshi. Joshi began his career in Marathi films and in Marathi theatre, also putting up performances in other films like Gujrati and Bhojpuri. He has acted in over 60 films since 1999, many of his roles being comedic.

Peepli Live is a Hindi film written and directed by Anusha Rizvi in her first directorial venture, and produced by Aamir Khan. The film stars Naya Theatre company member Omkar Das Manikpuri as well as Raghubir Yadav, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shalini Vatsa and Malaika Shenoy along with a number of newcomers. All over the country, flag-hoisting ceremonies are conducted by the local administration in attendance.
