London (PTI): Increasing popularity of Indian films following the success of 'Slumdog Millionaire' and other Hollywood movies based on Indian stories has been inspiring young British actresses to opt for Bollywood careers.Recession in the UK film industry and increasing demand for 'white performers' in Bollywood has spurred an estimated 1,000 British actors and dancers to move to Mumbai in the past three years, 'The Daily Telegraph' reported on Saturday.

After the success of 'Slumdog Millionaire', Indian film industry has become more popular among the young aspirants who are facing tough competitions at home, the report said.

While 1,000 actresses come for audition for one job in London, in Mumbai there are just a handful of competitors.

British actresses can earn upto 1,000 pounds a day in Mumbai and say opportunities are plentiful - a welcome, contrast to struggling for auditions and waiting at tables to survive in London, it said.

Twenty-four-year-old Hazel from Tunbridge Wells, Kent, who made a mark in Bollywood in the last five years, said she started her career as an extra artist.

"I first did advertisements for Ponds, Nokia and Samsung and then got my first proper role in a film in 'MP3: Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar' two years ago," she said, adding that she gets 2,000 pounds a night for doing stage shows.
