After unwittingly creating a controversy over glorification of poverty in Slumdog Millionaire , superstar Amitabh Bachchan spoke to director Danny Boyle to explain how his remarks were blown out of proportion by the media.A casual remark in his blog created headlines in newspapers and websites. It sparked off debates whether the Golden Globe winning movie was poverty porn that glorifies the slums in Mumbai’s underbelly to sell it to the western audiences. But according to the Big B, his remarks were misinterpreted by the media. To clarify this, he spoke to director Danny Boyle through a telephonic conversation on Wednesday arranged by actor Anil Kapoor. In his latest blog entry, Bachchan says he explained to Boyle the entire misinterpretation. "I also extended my apologies if this uncalled for misdemeanor has caused him and his film any anguish and grief," Big B said. And what was Danny Boyle’s response? "He acknowledged my calling him and said I need not have. He draws my attention to the film being in a sense a tribute to my presence in it and expresses a desire to meet me on his next visit to the country," Bachchan said. ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ has a few scenes from Big B’s past films and the story’s protagonist is shown as an Amitabh fan. Mr. Bachchan was also invited to the Mumbai premiere of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ on Thursday, but he could not attend it due to prior commitments. |
